3rd edition changes to Green book include:

The book study on Adam and his Kin, has been replaced by The Mysterious Benedict Society. Lessons have been replaced. Reading, comprehension and writing activities have also been added to many of the lessons. With this in mind, the second edition Student books are NOT compatible with the third edition Parent books and Visa Versa.

LLATL was first written 25 years ago when the daily use of card catalogs, encyclopedia’s and phone books were the norm. The new 3rd editions have been updated to reflect changes in the world and society around us. Also, because the books were written by two different authors over the span of four or five years, changes have been made to make the books more consistent and even easier to use.
