Twelve year-old Matt must survive alone in their cabin in the Maine wilderness until his father returns. He is not prepared for an attack by a swarm of bees, and is rescued by an Indian chief and his grandson. The boys become friends, and when there is no sign of Matt’s family after many months, Matt is asked to join the Beaver tribe and move North.
