Sonja: Can you tell us how this book came about?
Missy: During ministry as you were sharing, illustrations and pictures would come to me and then I would share and impart a different slant on the principle that was being spoken. Those illustrations were supportive and helpful for the gathered ladies. So after the ministry ended the mom would ask me if I had that story written down somewhere where they could get it, so that they could share it with their family or their friends.
Sonja: They wanted to take it home with them.
Missy: Yes, I don’t have it anywhere because that just came to me during the session and I shared it because it was something God prompted. This continued to happen and eventually I decided I will compile the pictures God gave me into a little book. That was a little bit of a struggle because it was something that had happened during ministry and so to try retrieve those stories later and put them into a written format was something that I really had to seek the Lord on and ask Him to re-inspire and re-prompt.
Sonja: So that’s why you titled it “Inspired by the Lord and written by Missy Wood”. I’d like to bring reference to a couple of the short stories. “The Porcelain Doll”. That was more of an experience of you having a little friend who was like a rag doll and would bounce around all over the place and you were used to being much more delicate and fragile with your chronic illness. And so you wrote a comparison between the two, the lesson that you had learnt from the Lord through that and Him making you unique. Then another story was “The Rose Garden”. That was a story that came to you through ministry, wasn’t it? With the thorns on the roses.
Missy: Yes and when I went to write it, an infusion of a story that you had shared with us, relating to you and your grandfather came in as well. And so I gleaned stories from experience and from family history, as well as God inspiration.
Sonja: So each of these stories holds a message that other moms have found to be of value that they can use in their own parenting or mothering or to help encourage their children with principles or morals that they would like to teach them. That’s how others have found them to be very helpful. Actually the testimony from others that have read this book tell us how helpful these stories have been to them. So we hope that you too can enjoy the little stories here in the “Oikos Ministry Messages” inspired by the Lord and written by Missy Wood.
This is a little gem of great worth. The short stories contained in this little book come from the heart of Missy Wood, who was 19 years old at the time of writing this booklet. She shares with us aspects of her own daily life while interweaving into that the message which God reveals to her through each life experience. Each short story is a treasure to behold, especially if you apply that which strikes a chord in your own heart. May the stories within speak to your heart and so bless you and your families.
