This book has been the most popular read-aloud book we have had in Oikos over all the years. It doesn’t surprise me at all. We have read it ourselves, a few times through, and most families that have it generally tell us that they read it again and again. It really is very popular. Let me tell you why.
First of all, there are twenty-nine short stories in this book. It’s been compiled by taking testimonies from missionaries all around the world. And it shows you (on a map) at the beginning of each chapter where the missionaries from the stories are based. Each story is only two to three pages long, and there is a short historic note about that particular missionary at the end of each story.
What I and many other families have experienced, is what happens when we read these stories. Seeds are planted into the children’s hearts which makes them aware of the missionaries out there the need to pray for them. Hopefully, these seeds grow into an awareness of the need to follow after Him and to be of service to Him.
Missionary Stories with the Miller’s Experience thrilling adventure as the Christian missionaries meet witch doctors, disease, drought, hate-filled guerillas, a Bible thief, and killer cats! Best of all, each one.is based on an actual happening from the lives of real people. Follow them as they respond to God’s call. Some of them miraculously escape danger, while others fall martyr for Christ, but the soldiers of the cross always win in the end!
