]]>“I’ve had a most amazing time….”
So begins the Time Traveller’s astonishing firsthand account of his journey 800,000 years beyond his own era — and the story that launched H.G. Wells’s successful career and earned him his reputation as the father of science fiction.
With a speculative leap that still fires the imagination, Wells sends his brave explorer to face a future burdened with our greatest hopes… and our darkest fears. A pull of the Time Machine’s lever propels him to the age of a slowly dying Earth. There he discovers two bizarre races—the ethereal Eloi and the subterranean Morlocks—who not only symbolize the duality of human nature, but offer a terrifying portrait of the men of tomorrow as well.
Published in 1895, this masterpiece of invention captivated readers on the threshold of a new century. Thanks to Wells’s expert storytelling and provocative insight, The Time Machine will continue to enthral readers for generations to come.

]]>Science in the Beginning is the first book in a hands-on, multilevel elementary science series that introduces scientific concepts using history as its guide. The beginning of history is given in the Bible’s creation account, and this book uses the days of creation as a way of introducing a wide range of scientific concepts including the nature of:
As the students learn about these scientific concepts, they are constantly reminded of the Creator who fashioned the marvels they are studying.
This audiobook is a supplement. It does not replace the book. Even though I do read through the instructions for all the experiments, it will be much easier for you to actually do the experiments if you have those instructions in written form. In addition, there are times when I will refer to specific pictures in the book, therefore I will change the wording from time-to-time so that you don’t have to be looking at the book while you listen to this recording.
Because Science in the Beginning is designed to give students a hands-on experience when it comes to studying nature, each lesson contains an experiment. Usually, there is some reading, then an experiment, and then more reading. As a result, most lessons are composed of three tracks so that you can skip around depending on your needs.

]]>This new science book by Dr Jay Wile, covers the general properties of the earth’s geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Students learn about all the sections of the geosphere (such as core, mantle, crust, etc.) and then they study each in more detail. Throughout the course, God’s design in nature is highlighted, and topics in the creation/evolution debate are discussed.
This product is a set consisting of the textbook and the answer key & tests book. The list of resources for the Earth Science kit can be seen in the description. (Please see SPECIAL NOTE at the end of the kit list)

]]>This laboratory-based earth science course can be used for either eighth or ninth grade. Most homeschooled students should be ready for it in eighth grade, but privately- and publicly-schooled students will be more comfortable with it in ninth grade. It covers the general properties of the earth’s geosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere. Students learn about all the sections of the geosphere (such as core, mantle, crust, etc.) and then they study each in more detail. When studying the earth’s crust, they learn about minerals, rocks, and the rock cycle. Plate tectonics is then covered, which leads to a discussion of seismic waves, earthquakes, and volcanoes. Students then learn about fossils and how both uniformitarians and catastrophists interpret those fossils as well as the sedimentary rocks in which they are found. A discussion that compares uniformitarianism and catastrophism follows, in which the strengths and weaknesses of each view are covered.
After that, the hydrosphere is discussed. Students first learn the properties of water such as polarity, the ability to hydrogen bond, and heat capacity. That leads to a discussion of the hydrologic cycle and residence time. Students then learn about the waves, currents, and tides in the ocean. They then move on to the ice reservoirs on the earth and then the freshwater reservoirs. Water in the air is the last part of the hydrosphere that is covered. The atmosphere is then discussed, including the composition of air, the sections of the atmosphere, temperature gradients, and pollutants. This leads to a discussion of weather. The course ends with two chapters on space, one that covers the solar system and one that covers the universe as a whole.
There are roughly 55 hours of laboratory instruction in the course. A kit that contains specific minerals, rocks, and fossils allows students to do very detailed experiments related to the geosphere. These include mineral tests, rock analyses, fossil studies, density investigations, and magnetic property explorations. Students also get hands-on experience with waves, gases, wind, water purification, cloud formation, the Coriolis effect, precipitation, and acid/base interactions.
List of resources for the kit:
(currently the kit for Earth Science is not available through Oikos but we give you the list of resources here in the hopes that you can source these items while we continue to work on attaining the kit to make it available for you)
VERY IMPORTANT: Please read special note at the end of this list.
SPECIAL NOTE
Recorded Classes are available for this subject. The classes are taught by Mrs. McKeeman. There are two recordings per chapter of the textbook.
If you are unable to source the items for the experiments we hope that watching the lesson/experiments shown in the ‘recorded classes’ link will help you in the interim.
As soon as we can make the kit for this course available we will add it as a product for you to purchase here on the Oikos site.
We asked Dr Wile this question regarding the need for the kits.
“While we are trying to get the kits here in South Africa, be that locally or imported, would students be able to use this Earth Science book while waiting for us to have kits in stock?”
here is Dr Wile’s answer:
”Students can use the book without the kits, but they won’t be able to do many of the experiments. Some of the experiments don’t require anything special, but a lot of them require something from the kits. The experiments aren’t necessary, but they do add a lot.”

]]>Classic Short Stories.
Are you wanting to be assured that your children are reading stories that are going to convict, inspire and encourage them in their characters for them to make right choices?
Well what we have done about that is the following.
Because it’s really hard to find decent literature, we have, over all our years of home educating (Homeschooling) and reading-aloud numerous books to our own children, selected the ‘cream of the crop’, and have put them on the online store for you, in the form of the following three titles…
72 Stories Worth Re-Reading:
That’s exactly why its called that, because every story in it is worth re-reading. They are not just your everyday stories. Each one is teaching something of value, we hope, well actually we know, as they have touched our children’s lives which has helped mould their character. The short stories in this volume are largely Biblically based but they are mostly based on imparting strong moral, principled stories.
Then the other two are very specifically, short stories for boys, “Tiger and Tom” and then short stories for girls “Kings Daughter”.
If you are wanting your daughters to be taught in piety, grace and modesty and being encouraged to be Godly woman, then every story in Kings Daughter encourages that.
It’s the same for the boys with the Tiger and Tom short stories to encourage young boys to be raised as men that would stand in stature, wisdom and in favour before God.
This reproduction of the 1910 version of The King’s Daughter and Other Stories for Girls keeps all of the original stories in their entirety along with its 100 illustrations. The stories were compiled from a four volume set titled, Sabbath Readings which were originally gathered from church papers in the 1870’s. The 1910 edition is when the stories were originally illustrated. A breath of fresh air in literature for youth, the stories aim to build character in young women.
